Roest Software Enhancements We’d Love to See in 2025

At Central Coast Coffee, we’re big fans of Roest Sample Roasters and the transformative way they’ve streamlined workflows for roasters around the world. As avid users, we’ve had the chance to dive deep into their software and hardware, and we’re excited about the possibilities for the future. Here’s a wishlist of features and enhancements that we believe could make Roest even more intuitive and powerful in 2025 in no particular order.

Software Suggestions

    1. Bulk Log Editing: Introduce bulk editing capabilities for logs, such as editing coffee names, start/end weights, and colors for multiple roasts simultaneously. Users should be able to tick multiple logs for batch updates, saving significant time during post-roast data management.
    2. Quick Editing in Log View: Enable direct, fast editing of individual fields in the log grid without opening the logs. For instance, double-clicking a field should allow for quick changes without navigating into the log's edit mode.
    3. Live Data Input with Carry-Over Feature: Add the ability to input roast data during live roasting, with an option to carry over data (e.g., coffee type) to the next roast automatically. This streamlines workflows, especially during busy roasting sessions.
    4. Allow roast events to be edited live while roasting. If I have auto-mark yellow set to a certain temperature, I have to wait til after the roast finishes to change it
    5. For those who do not use roest inventory at all why does it default to selecting lots from inventory when inventory=null. I don't use the inventory feature - so when I go to add the details during a roast it's annoying that the radio bubble defaults to selecting from inventory rather than free entry
    6. Inventory Weight Automation: Automate the deduction of inventory weight based on profile settings. For example:
      • If a 200g profile is set, the system should automatically apply this starting weight to the log and deduct it from inventory.
      • This eliminates the need to manually input the starting weight for every log, reducing repetitive tasks.
    7. Weight Loss Percentage in Logs: Display the weight loss percentage directly in the log grid for quick analysis. This would be helpful for tracking roasting efficiency at a glance.
    8. Preheat Temperature Based on Drum Temperature: Instead of presetting air temperature, enable preheating based on drum temperature. This would streamline workflows, especially when using different batch sizes like 50g, 100g, or 200g.
It would be also good to set this as well for the BBP
    9. Improved Export Options: Provide enhanced PDF and CSV exports with customizable fields to better suit users’ needs.
    10. Custom Warmup Profile with Pause Functionality: Add a customizable warmup profile that preheats the roaster to a target drum temperature, stabilizes it, then cools down to a set temperature (similar to a BBP). Include a "Pause and Warmup" function to pause roasting for an extended period (e.g., an hour) and resume the warmup profile when ready.
    11. Persistent Searches in Logs: Keep search filters active when navigating back from a log to the main search view, avoiding the need to re-enter search terms.
    12. Improved System Responsiveness: Optimize the speed of the cloud software, especially for users in regions like Australia. For example:
      • Clicking on logs or navigating through the cloud software often takes 3 seconds to display all the logs.
      • Opening a specific log can take an additional 4–5 seconds. Improving this responsiveness would enhance usability and save valuable time during roasting sessions.
    13. Profile Assignment Streamlining: Allow profiles to be assigned to slots directly from the viewing screen without the need to search for and assign them separately in the profile list.
    14. Enhanced Control for Bean Temperature Profiles: Introduce the ability to drop bean temperature profiles early via the screen interface, triggering the lever to drop and close for better BBP (Bean Bed Protection) management.
    15. Adjustable Rate of Rise (ROR) Axis Scaling: Allow users to adjust the ROR scale, similar to Artisan, for better customization during roast profiling.
    16. Log Highlighting: Highlight logs for specific purposes, such as green for production logs or red for failed roasts.
    17. BBP Interrupted: Allow the drop handle to be opened and closed without disrupting the BBP cycle but this setting needs to be able to turned on and off easily as this can also be a cheat method when I change batch sizes or profiles to one with a different start temp. I'd love to see the ability to set BBP to a starting temp and have it automatically adapt to the profile loaded
    18. Custom Roaster Appearance: Allow the roaster photo in the application to be changed to match the color of the user’s roaster for better identification.

    19. Allow roasts to be terminated from the Online software / Live Roast Page. If you are across the room and see something you can just end the roast from your computer

Physical Improvements

      1. Preloading Beans Before Roast Completion: Modify the hopper and tray system to prevent beans from passing through into the tray when preloaded before a roast finishes. Currently, a gap allows beans in the hopper to fall through into the tray when the roasted batch drops, causing mix-ups and wasted beans.
      2. Redesign to Prevent Bean Loss and Stuck Beans: Address gaps in the roasting chamber where beans can get stuck. For example:
        • Fix gaps in the roasting chamber that require a blower to dislodge beans.
        • Fix the issue where beans lodge between the chamber bottom and the drop handle, preventing the handle from fully closing.

      3. I'd love to see them better insulate the roasting chamber and not vent air into the room at all (instead using only the exhaust)

We believe these suggestions can help make Roest software even more intuitive and powerful for roasters worldwide. What do you think? What’s on your wishlist for Roest?
